How Gaining Ground All Started

Gaining Ground is a 3 piece acoustic rock band out of Cleveland Ohio.  We first began in May 2001 when Mike asked P.J. and Gaining Grounds former drummer Keith to come and jam with him with some songs that he had written.  At that time P.J. and Keith were with another band called Ex-Nihilo, who consequently needed an opening band for two shows in May.  They asked Mike if he would do some solo stuff to open for them, and P.J. and Keith said they would help him out with two songs.  After those two shows all three members of the band were sold on the idea of playing together more often.  On the day of the second show the band Gaining Ground was birthed.  In December of 2001 Keith was called by God in a different direction, but when God closes one door he opens another, and miraculously Aaron walked into the picture.  Mike met him in Guitar Center and talked about getting together and jamming some day.  In an emergency situation Gaining Ground  needed a drummer for a show in 3 days so they called Aaron. He canceled plans and made a point to help Gaining Ground out.  That said a lot to Mike and P.J.  They played that show together after a 45 min. practice and no one could tell it was Aaron's first time playing with Gaining Ground. He was immediately welcomed into the Gaining Ground family.  So, ladies and gentlemen, this is the Gaining Ground you see today.

What Gaining Ground is All About

Hey this is P.J. from Gaining Ground, and I just want to tell you a little about what we stand for.  Gaining Ground is more than just a band who likes to perform.  There is not a show we could play, no matter how big, that could give us the satisfaction that we long for.  Rather, Gaining Ground is all about following God's will and obeying his commands, such as preaching the Gospel to the whole world.  We care more about the souls of our fans and the decisions they make than how famous they can make us.  Being famous is not satisfying.  If it was, there would not be as many actors, and especially musicians, in rehabs and mental health institutes across America.  If being famous was so great why would so many "rockstars" commit suicide or be found in hospitals with their stomachs being pumped for drug overdoses?  Or why would so many actresses be found in hospitals with eating disorders?  The truth is, nothing will fulfill you like a personal relationship with Jesus.  We are not talking about religion because religion is nothing more than a glorified cult.  We are talking about something real, something worthwhile--something that can save your soul.  Drugs, alcohol, and being famous will not be able to save your soul.  Doing good things cannot save your soul.  Religion can not save your soul-- it mostly suppresses it-- but a real relationship with Jesus, the son of the one and only true God, can.  If you think we are too radical with what we believe, then so be it.  If you will stop listening to us because of it, well then, it is a loss we will have to take  because this is who we are.  We are more Christians than we are Musicians.  We will never force this on you or "preach" to you from the stage, but we will speak what's in our hearts, which is our songs, which God has spoken into our spirits.  We want to thank you for taking time to read this, and we hope it has blessed you in one way or another.  One last thing...God is the creator of Rock and Roll!
